This pamphlet was commissioned to honour the poet Michael Donaghy, who died in 2004, and to celebrate the tradition of craftsmanship everywere evident in St Mary's Church, Beverley, and Beverley Minster. While the poems and essays included explore different stories, myths and poetic techniques, they are linked by the way they catch an intense and moving emontional energy within their highly crafted lines. In doing so, they demonstrate the point, dear to Michael Donaghy, that contemporary poetry is at its most meaningful when it keeps an ear open to the inherited store of memorable songs and poems.
