Warm up a January Monday with love poetry and music washed down with a glass of wine to celebrate St Dwynwen, the Welsh equivalent of St Valentine.
Leading Welsh poet Dannie Abse will read from his work in Wren’s unspoilt St Benet’s, the Metropolitan Welsh Church, on January 25th, 7 - 9 pm. Most of the programme will be in English with translation available for any Welsh items.
"Toast all that which seems to vanish
like a rainbow stared at, those bright
truant things that will not keep;"
(from O Taste an...d See by Dannie Abse)
Abse was born in Cardiff in 1923, and his poems draw on his Welsh and Jewish inheritance, and his long career as a doctor. Abse focuses on his love poetry, including new work from his forthcoming collection 'Two for Joy'. He is joined by a chamber choir and actor Eirlys Bellin who performs some classic Welsh poems.
Nearest tube: Mansion House.
Admission free, suggested donation £5.
