As fellow country editors of Poetry International Web, the Poetry Society is pleased to host the editor of the India domain, poet and journalist Arundhathi Subramaniam, in a tour of the UK during October 2006. This tour is presented with support from Visiting Arts and the British Council.

Arundhathi Subramaniam is a critically acclaimed young Indian poet writing in English. Based in Mumbai, where she works as an arts journalist, she was awarded the Charles Wallace Fellowship at the University of Stirling in 2003. She is also editor of the India domain of Poetry International website, india.poetryinternationalweb.org, a leading site for international poetry and translation. Her books include On Cleaning Bookshelves (Allied, 2001) and Where I Live (Allied, 2005). She co-edited Confronting Love (Penguin, 2001), an anthology of contemporary Indian love poems in English.

This tour celebrates an exchange of contemporary poetry from the UK and India, via the prestigious international platform of Poetry International Web. Throughout October 2006, the editor of the India domain visits six cities around the UK. In addition to reading her own engaging poetry, many of these events will feature Arundhathi Subramaniam discussing India's contemporary culture through the poems she has selected, the many languages from which they are drawn, and the significance of these poems being translated into English – often for the first time.
