Youth Members

Our Youth Membership is designed to support young readers, poets and critiques. It also puts them in touch with opportunities for young writers, keeps them in touch with what's happening in poetry and share writing with other young writers.  Membership is open to anyone aged 11-18 and costs just £15.00 per year.

We have hundreds of youth members, including many past Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award winners and spoken word poets from the Slambassadors competition.

Youth Members are also invited to submit to YM our online. Each issue will be guest edited by one of our young members. Membership will give you:

 

  • An information pack supporting for young readers, critics and writers.  
  • At least two poetry anthologies or collections.
  • Opportunity to submit to YM our online magazine. Each edition has a theme and our members are invited to submit poetry, articles, reviews and illustration.  
  • A set of Poems on the Underground posters.
  • Members only opportunities, when they arise, such as The Norman Hidden Prize
  • Quarterly copies of Poetry News keeping you informed of what's happening in the poetry world and with the Poetry Society, with opportunities for all members, young and old, to see their work published and shared with thousands of other members
  • Invitations and discounts to readings and workshops for young writers and readers.
  • Specialist information about competitions, magazines and websites for young writers.
  • Discounts to our Poetry Prescription feedback service.

    The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is Britain's most prestigious poetry prize for young writers between the ages of 11-17. Each year we look for a hundred of the best young poets in the UK and beyond, as well as some of the most active poetry schools with special prizes for both 11-14 and 15-17 year olds. The closing date each year is 31st July.

    Slambassadors is the only UK professional development online slam, and is open to 12-18 year olds living in London and Liverpool. If you’re keen to develop your writing and stage skills, this is the competition for you.
