April 2013 update: Recent meetings have included talks and discussions on contemporary women poets (including Kathleen Jamie and Alice Oswald), and John Betjeman. At all meetings we also workshop up to four of our own poems. Our next meeting on June 3rd will include a talk on the influence of Irish poets on English poetry. Our next Public Event will be on June 15th , from 2pm – 4.30pm, in the Christian Centre, Dorking, when Myra Schneider will be our ‘sofa’ poet.
The next Woking Stanza group meeting is Wednesday 5th June and starts at 7.30. One of the things we will be doing, as well as listening and giving feedback on each other's poetry, is deciding who and what will be representing us at our forthcoming Stanza Bonanza. We continue to grow and choosing between the many and various poetry voices will be difficult.
Also a reminder to poets from all Stanza groups - and indeed elsewhere, that the Paragram Poetry competition is under way. All details, including a few words from our judge, Adrienne Dines, can be found at www.para-gram.com. The theme is taken from one of the great women poets, Emily Dickinson, and is '...a certain slant of light...' and is open to the broadest interpretation in terms of form, ( or indeed, free form) or meaning.
