Spain (Alacant) Stanza with Mimi Khalvati (front, centre) and Christopher North (standing), September 2009
our regular monthly workshops continue at La Seu, Alicante University, C/Purissima 57/59 Benissa , Alicante Province, Spain. The next meeting is at 5pm on February 14. In January we launched José Gonzalez' new collection 'Haikugrafias' a collection of Haiku responding to the photographs by Juan-Carlos Valdovino. The launch included readings of the haiku in Spanish, Catalan, Japanese and English. Tutors visiting the Almassera Vella this Spring include Mario Petrucci (March 31) Jane Draycott (April 16) and there is a 'Beginning to Write' course March 17.
The Madrid Stanza meets on the second Tuesday evening of each month, at Café Ruiz on Calle Ruiz (Metro Bilbao/San Bernardo), in the centre of the city. We welcome visitors and may be able to arrange additional meetings for travellers who don't coincide with our usual schedule. For further information about the group please see the Madrid Stanza webpage or contact Gwyneth.
Our next meeting will be at 8pm on Tuesday 14 February at Café Ruiz, Calle Ruiz, Madrid (metro Bilbao/San Bernardo). As the meeting falls on St Valentine's day, some of us are hoping to have some love poetry ready for discussion. Visitors welcome.
This poetry group was originally formed in 2008. It has seen changes but some of the original members are still writing and attending meetings. Their support has seen us survive and we consider that we are now in a stronger position than ever. We come from a variety of backgrounds and origins which, I believe, does give added strength. The ‘Celtic Fringe’ is well represented in that individuals come from the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and even North Wales. Fear not, any potential English members, for there is true Anglo-Saxon blood in the group.
You can read your own work out loud (always the best way) to those present and receive supportive comment from members at meeting and also by email from other members (back in Britain temporarily) which gives a broad perspective to our writings.
We meet at the Biblioteca in San Javier which has the full address of C./Coronel Fernandez Tudela, 29, (post code) 30730, San Javier, Murcia, Spain. The meetings are held from 10.30am on the second and fourth Friday of each month-although this may vary occasionally due to local fiestas. We welcome everyone, whether resident, partly resident or just an occasional visitor. Some members also participate in Torrevieja Writers’ Circle and Wordplay. This gives us a broader base from which people come to support my ‘open mic’ evenings.
