ExC¡te Poetry Launch: L to R Alisdair Paterson, Rachel McCarthy, Tony Frazer
ExC¡te Poetry is the Poetry Society Stanza for East Devon. Within 6 months ExCite became the largest group of its kind in the UK. Like all Stanzas, ExC¡te acts to increase the number of opportunities for people to read their work as well as listen to and learn about contemporary poetry. You can find out about all the activities ExC¡te is involved in by visiting our website - see above. Membership to ExC¡te is FREE, yes, you read that correctly.
You do not need to be a Poetry Society member to attend any of our events, although it often earns you discounted entry. Contact us to be added to our mailing list and kept up-to-date with poetry events in the area.In March ExCite Poetry, together with University of Exeter students and Topsham Museum delivered a powerful dramatic and poetic interpretation of the Museum's newest exhibition to both public and privately-invited audiences.
It was a fascinating and rewarding experience for our members as well as the actors who integrated poets' work into a wider narrative of familial relationships of the early 20th century.
The collaboration was so successful that ExCite is discussing collaboration with the UK museum of the year: the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, based in Exeter, in a project focussed on the responses of school children and emerging writers to the museum's collection.
Plymouth's Waterfront Writers meet in university term time at 1pm every Friday to read both prose and verse. For further information explore www.waterfrontwriters.org.uk
In addition, Stanza members hold occasional afternoon poetry readings and discussions.
Cheerful news: one member reached the long list of the National Poetry Competition this year.
