We meet on the last Tuesday of the month in Stalybridge Station Buffet Bar, 7.00 to 9.30 p.m.
Member Linda Goulden has been chosen as a prize winner in the Poetry Society Members' Poems on the theme of 'True North'. Her poem, 'Dunbar Avian', will appear in the next Poetry News.
Our Manchester Cathedral Poetry Project is ongoing with the mini-launch for family and friends on June 4th. This will be held in the temporary Cathedral as the permanent building is undergoing refurbishments. The full launch will be held on Ash Wednesday 2014 when the Cathedral is back in use. We will be recording the poems with the North West Sound Archive on July 9th ready for the preparation of a pamphlet for the major launch.
We continue our regular reading slots on Tameside Radio (103.6 FM) on Monday, Wednesday and Friday lunchtimes, 12.00-1.00.
Several of our Stanza members were included in Sculpted, Poetry of the North West, edited by Lindsey Holland and Angela Topping, with an introduction by David Morley. Submissions were open to members of The North West Poets collective and 62 poets with affiliations to the North West were selected. The book was launched at The Museum of Liverpool in April and several more launches are planned, including one at The Wordsworth Trust. Stanza members included are: Steven Waling, Jan Dean, John Calvert, David Seddon, Emma McCourty and Edwin Stockdale.
The group has recently been treated to some free workshops led by Emma McCourty, who is completing a teacher training qualification. Another is planned soon. Contact Angela Topping for details or join the facebook page BLAZE.
