Dan Wyke

My poems have appeared in a number of publications, including The Rialto, Thumbscrew, The Reader, Oxford Poetry, Times Literary Supplement, and The Spectator. I received an Eric Gregory Award in 1999. Waterloo Press published a pamphlet Scattering Ashes in 2004 and have just brought out (July 2010) my first full-length collection Waiting for the Sky to Fall. Scott Kristoffer Ripley

First published in Poetry Review in 2010. I am a young bookseller and political activist living in East Sussex. With a dedicated and passionate approach I hope to make some small contribution to what we love. 

Gill Nicholson

I am a South Cumbrian writer. In 1999 my plays Dougie Rides Again and The Scrap Heap were performed by the BBC and at West Yorkshire Playhouse respectively. A childhood memoir The Mirror Game appeared in 2004 and short stories were published by Flax in 2008. Poems have appeared in The Edge, Pitch, Pennine Platform, Seam, iota, Orbis and The Interpreter’s House. Timothy Adès

Translator-poet of rhyme and metre, I am a somewhat unusual writer. Alyson Hallett

Poetry books include The Stone Library (Peterloo Poets), Towards Intimacy and in the time of crow (Queriendo Press). My poem ‘Arise’ is carved into the pavement of Milsom Street, Bath,and I take stones with words carved into them all over the world. Jack Stanley

Though resident in the UK, I was recently honoured as a US National Treasure. My initial poetry collection, Reckoning, was published by Hearing Eye in 2008. I’ve been short-listed for the Bridport Prize. My next poetry book, Jazz River, is composed of tributes to creators of America’s major musical art form. My jazz memoirs have been filmed and are held in the National Jazz Archive, Tulane University, New Orleans.

Jane Lovell

Most of my poems focus on man's relationship with wildlife, from microscopic prisoners in a jar to a circus elephant butchered during food shortages in post-war Vienna. Threads of folklore and superstition run through many. Examples can be found at www.myspace.com/jane128.

Sullivan the Poet AKA Michael Sullivan

I spent my early years in the Far East, returning to England in the late fifties where I was subsequently educated. John Pope

Soldier, authoritative writer on Business and Management, grandfather and gardener. I started writing poetry at 17, then nothing much until I was 60. I write ‘with the net up’ and have tried most of the common forms. Much is elegiac in tone. Nothing published yet but in a busy life I write only about a dozen poems a year. Will produce a chap book when there is enough on a theme.

Frances Green

I read poetry avidly, write it occasionally, and have been lucky enough to have work published in a number of places - which keeps me positively encouraged! John Asling

A Canadian with a background in journalism now living in Blackheath (London), I have published a few short stories and poems on both sides of the Atlantic. I have also worked as a church executive, youth worker, teacher and freelance writer and editor. I continue to study and write daily and publish in small magazines, loving the challenge and the opportunity to deepen my understanding of the soul of poetry.

Marion Ashton

I was inspired to start writing seriously about 12 years ago on an Arvon course led by Don Paterson. Since then I have had poems published in several magazines, including The North, Smiths Knoll and Mslexia. I have just completed the Creative Writing MA with Royal Holloway. I have a poem in the 2010 Cinnamon Prize anthology Glimmer. I'm also one of the featured poets on the poetry pf website.

Michael Blackburn

I have written poetry for many years and have a wide knowledge of styles through the centuries. I am fascinated by people and their interaction with the landscape and our surroundings. I have a great love for wild landscapes and coastlines which artistically I portray in my writing and photography. I regularly present lectures on the British Landscape. My expanding writing career encompasses poetry, novels, history, geography and comedy. My first poetry book is Touching Life.

Myra Schneider

My tenth collection of poetry, Circling The Core, was published by Enitharmon Press (2008). I’m interested in narrative, personal poetry and the writing process, and love being a poetry tutor. My publications about personal writing, with a strong poetry focus, include Writing Your Way Through Cancer (Jessica Kingsley 2003) and Writing Your Self (with John Killick, Continuum 2009). Angela Topping

I have three solo poetry collections, two with Stride (Dandelions for Mothers’ Day 1988, The Fiddle 1999); one with bluechrome (The Way We Came 2007). My first collection for children is The New Generation (Salt 2010). A chapbook, I Sing of Bricks, is forthcoming (Salt 2011). I am freelance after 16 years teaching English in secondary schools. I write educational materials for several publishers and have edited two poetry books.

Ruth Fainlight

I have written poems since childhood, and later began to write short stories, translate poetry from other languages, and write opera libretti. My first collection was published in 1966. There have been about a dozen more since, including Moon Wheels, Burning Wire and Sugar-Paper Blue (shortlisted for the Whitbread Prize). My latest book is New & Collected Poems, which has just been published by Bloodaxe.

Dan Simpson

I am a spoken word poet, poetry events organiser and writer. I co-organise and compère Apples and Snakes Tongue Tide monthly poetry night in Whitstable and am active on the London performance poetry scene. Martin Alexander

I  write poetry, short stories and travel pieces. I have been translated into Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese and Romanian. In 2004 I  published a poetry collection, Clearing Ground (Chameleon Press). A featured writer at festivals in Hong Kong, China, Egypt, Singapore and Romania, I won the SCMP Short Story Competition (1999) and the Orient-Occident International Grand Prix for Poetry (2009). Ben Wilkinson

I was born in Stafford in 1985 and now live in Sheffield. My poems have appeared in publications including Poetry Review, Poetry London, The Spectator, The Manhattan Review and the TLS. My pamphlet of poems, The Sparks, was published by tall-lighthouse in 2008. Among other things, I review poetry for the Guardian and the TLS, and work as an editor of the Poetry Archive.

Leo Aylen

I've published 8 collections + approx 100 poems in anthologies + over 100 broadcast. Runner-up in Arvon (twice), Peterloo (twice), and Bridport. 3 solo shows on CBS. Created poems from current news for BBC R4 1994–98, translated Greek, Latin, French, Italian, German, and Spanish poetry for BBC, including Aristophanes' The Birds. Alexandra Wilde

I was born in Buxton and grew up in East Africa, returning to England in 1970. I've always written poetry and short stories, had work published by Poetry Salzburg and won a hat trick of prizes in competitions sponsored by LB Havering. I'm a keen steam train buff, and perform my own "steamy" poems in Poetry on the Platform. Strider Marcus Jones

I am a Law graduate and ex-civil servant. In my teens, I hid my poetry notebooks under a floorboard in my bedroom. Pat Earnshaw

I graduated in Biology and while teaching wrote The Systematics of Flowering Plants (Methuen). I later became a world authority on antique lace, giving frequent lecture tours in the USA, Australia, and Europe. I lectured for NADFAS and was a panel lecturer for the V&A. I published 14 fully illustrated reference books on the subject. Ana Paula Pinheiro

I write poems full of rhyme in the Portuguese and English languages.I started writing poems in 2004 when I was in the middle of a master´s degree in Business.My first bilingual poetry book was published very recently in Brazil and as well as having been registered in the Brazilian National Library, it was registered in the North American Library of Congress.

James Priestman

I’m chair of the Pitshanger Poets in West London. I perform all my poems from memory and I'm an experienced host of poetry open mic events, including the Immrama Festival of Travel Writing in Ireland and the Chiswick Book Festival in London. I work as Head of Drugs and Community Safety at Slough Borough Council.

Greta Ross

Retired recently from GP and Community Health, but still active in voluntary work and health projects in Eastern Europe. Poetry writing a way of life; meeting like-minded poets a joy. I've published one collection Facts of Life; have taken part in poetry workshops and Arvon courses. Other creative interests: the use of hypnosis to support constructive change; music and art.

Valerie Laws

My 8 books include two full collections from Peterloo Poets. I also specialise in sci-art poetry installations for exhibition and public spaces, often arising from commissions or science-based Residencies, two recently funded by Wellcome Trust. Currently Writer in Residence at Gordon Museum of Pathology, London, and Newcastle University's Institute for Ageing and Health. Golf, Observer; Poetry; Crystal Healing, Humanitarian, Cynic; Photography; Dowsing, Inquisitive, Atheist; Geology; Cooking. If, after reading a poem, you are inclined to place an icepack on your head, then the Poet has done you no favours. Much of life is eloquently exposing what you see, not obturating with obscurity.

I was named as one of the commended young poets at the Foyles Young Poets Award 2010. I'll be going on to study Creative Writing at university. I was born in Bamburgh, Northumberland and attended grammar school in Newcastle. I graduated from Leeds University and taught art history; I was head of the School of Art at Lancashire Polytechnic. My work has appeared in London Magazine, Stand, Other Poetry, Oxford Poetry, The Spectator, The Rialto, and several anthologies. I have published three collections: Polemos (Eperon Press 1995); The Ghost View (Dark Age Press 2009) and The Situation (Dark Age Press 2010).

Charles Evans

I’m a retired naval officer and academic. I’ve had plays performed professionally, won a variety of poetry competitions, and had poems published in numerous magazines. I'm a student at the University of Exeter, halfway through a BA Hons (English with Film Studies). Aged 4, I sold my homemade "books" to family and relatives for 4p! At 14 I was a Runner Up in a Spinebreakers Competition (Penguin's online community for teenagers). At 17 I self published some of my poetry and sold my books on Amazon. I'm working towards my degree whilst writing for the University's Newspaper and TV station.

Alexis Dimyan

I am a Bookseller and recently self-published my first collection of poems, Upon the Inward Eye. Phil Barrett

Originally trained as a visual artist, I took early retirement to focus on writing. I am currently leading poetry workshops in Libraries, Schools and elsewhere in North Norfolk. Fran Cole

Reading poetry always makes me feel humble. My family travelled extensively when I was young, and poetry has always helped to answer my questions about identity. After creative writing courses with the OU I’ve started to write down all the ideas that have been in my head since childhood. I’ve started on another journey that I don’t want to end. Simon Jenner

My debut was in parallel English/German volumes: From Head to Foot; Player-Time. An S-E Arts Bursary and BBC commissions 1999-2003 preceded Royal Literary Fund grants in 2003/2006. I’ve been Director, Survivors’ Poetry since 2003; from 2008-10, RLF Fellow: at UEL, then Chichester. Waterloo volumes are About Bloody Time (2006), Wrong Evenings (2011). Pessoa (Perdika, 2009) was launched by Poet in the City – who appointed me to Hackney Council Archives. A third Waterloo title is forthcoming.

I was born in 1959 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. I am currently studying a Creative Entrepreneurship MA since completing a degree in English Literature at UEA. I’m an Italian born bilingual professional whose personal and public persona revolves around the theme of double belonging and sense of loss. Shaun Traynor

I have published two collections of poetry and am the editor of the Poolbeg Book of Irish Poetry for Children. I have also published children's novels with Methuen and Poolbeg Press Dublin. Kim Dixon

Since moving to Fetlar, Shetland Islands in 2009 with my husband, I have time on my hands to write. I am a singer/songwriter, have won semi finalist positions for songs in the UK Songwriting Competiton 2010 and 2011 but then went to a local poetry meeting on Fetlar headed by poet Jen Hadfield. I haven’t looked back. I’m writing poetry everyday and really enjoying myself! I hope to publish eventually.
