Organiser John Harrison: An informal late morning/afternoon programme of readings, music and encouragements to write, including the launch of a children's poetry competition in conjunction with local schools.

Since Easter there have been two outdoor poetry trails of new, published and ‘classical’ poems. One follows a woodland path to the Iron Age fort and the second leads visitors (especially children) around fields surrounding the Castle. In the same way, poems act as frontispieces to the guide booklets in each of the Castle’s public rooms. The first selections have just been replaced; the second will be replaced at the end of June, and so on until October. Public reactions to the trails have so far been very encouraging.

The Croft Castle site has a thousand-year heritage, the remains of an Iron Age hill fort, and is set in wonderful countryside. We couldn't have wished for a more inspirational setting. The National Trust staff, who have been enthusiastic and supportive, have advised us to focus our efforts on their two target groups: 'curious minds' who are interested in creativity and finding things out, and 'explorer families' with young children. We are aiming to do just that.
