Poet Coral Rumble led a poetry workshop at Our Lady of Dolours primary school, Westminster in early November. Here are some of the poems written by children in year six.

A Christmas Cinquain

Worried
My hair swaying
Waiting to be chopped off
Feeling very strong and brave
Dizzy

Waiting
Leaving my friends
Feeling like a Captain
Shifted onto a large lorry
Hoping

Staring
At the big boat
Stopped at a long canal
They put me in the centre of
the Square

Breathing
The Winter air
Everyone is staring
The bright lights are shining on me
Real Star

A Christmas Cinquain

Alone
Scared and worried
Travelling to London
Gonna shine in Trafalgar Square
Can’t wait

Hero
See me shining
and blowing them away
I am the new star of the show
Twinkling

A Christmas Cinquain

Waiting
In some thick snow
With an axe chopping me
Timber! shows the large axe wielder
I drop

Hoping
That all is well
On a grey, massive ship
Large waves crash loudly like cymbals
Strange place

Staring
At all that’s new
The long whizzing by
My wooden heart beats
Brilliant

Standing
With all looking
I love the attention
I’m bewitched by the people
Love me
