Poet Lindsay MacRae led a poetry workshop at Hargrave Park Primary School, Islington in early November. Here are some of the poems written by children in year six.

The Tree’s Journey

Stars twinkling
Birds bouncing
Deer dancing

In my forest home!

Succulent sausage sizzling
Red robins hopping
Queen choosing
Flames crackling

I’m the chosen one!

Sea swirling
Branch hurling
Rain lashing
Ship sliding

Bumpy cargo ship

Horns buzzing
Planes soaring
Wiper sweeping

On the journey south

Flash bulbs flashing
Huge crowd cheering
Big Ben striking
I’m shimmering

In Trafalgar Square!

The Tree’s Journey

Earth fragrance blooming
Stars shimmering
White wonderland sparkling
Snowflakes twinkling
In my forest home

Branches burning
Trees tingling
Mayors cheering
Bells ringing
I’m the chosen one

Grey waves crashing
Sea sickening
Great shivering
Tree thrumbling
Bumpy cargo ship

Cars rushing
Trucks beeping
Clouds thundering
Traffic trouble making
On the journey south

Stars sparkling
Fireworks blasting
Big Ben donging
People ooing
In Trafalgar Square

The Tree’s Journey

Spiders crawling
Eagles soaring
Snow falling
Northern lights twinkling

In my winter home

Children choosing
Bells binging
Sausages sizzling
Cutters cutting

I’m the chosen one

Boat breaking
Rain rumbling
Crew panicking
Waves roaring

Bumpy cargo boat

Leaves falling
Traffic moving
Horns beeping
Indicators flashing

On the journey south

Buses rumbling
London eye glistening
Mayor celebrating
Cameramen filming

In Trafalgar Square
