The Fleming Collection, London

 


THE FLEMING COLLECTION

 

The Poetry Society has worked with the Fleming Collection to commission a poem inspired by their paiting 'The Eve of the Battle of the Somme’ by Sir Herbert James Gunn and mark the centenary of the start of the First World War.

EVAPORATIONS FILMPOEM

 

Poet Alice Oswald and artist Chana Dubinski have collaborated to create a new filmpoem exploring water’s different states. The theme of National Poetry Day 2013 is ‘Water, Water Everywhere’. The Poetry Society commissioned this new work to celebrate.

CANAL LAUREATE 2013 FILMPOEMS


The Poetry Society has commissioned four new filmpoems from poets Jo Bell, Liz Berry, Ian Duhig and Ian McMillan for National Poetry Day. Produced in partnership with the Canal & River Trust as part of the Canal Laureate 2013 project, the canal-themed filmpoems have all been produced by filmmaker and photographer Alastair Cook, and were premiered at National Poetry Day Live at the Southbank Centre in London on 3 October 2013.




  CAPE FAREWELL:YOUTH POETICS                    

The Poetry Society's Young Poets Network teamed up with Cape Farewell - the international not-for-profit organisation set up to instigate a cultural response to Climate Change, based in the Science Museum's Dana Centre, London. Poet Karen McCarthy Woolf set four poetry challenges hosted on the Young Poets Network which invited young poets to respond to Cape Farewell’s archive of photos, videos and blog posts. Switch: Year 2, led by Helen Mort was launched in December 2013 and will culminate in a large scale

    ITV LONDON UNDERGROUND COMMISSION



Happy Birthday London Underground, 150 years old.  ITV's news programme 'London Tonight' asked the Poetry Society to commission a poem to mark the Tube's anniversary. John Hegley wrote a poem on the spot. Here's his poem, 'Of Mice and Many'. Written, filmed and broadcast on 11 January 2013.

    TRAFALGAR SQUARE CHRISTMAS TREE

For the fourth year running, The Poetry Society, in partnership with the Mayor of Oslo’s Office and the Royal Norwegian Embassy, will wrap the Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree in a poem. Drawing inspiration from primary school children's poems written during workshops in November, a final poem has been written by Jackie Kay, to celebrate this symbol of international friendship through poetry.

The Poetry Society commissioned poet Coral Rumble to write a guide to help parents and carers enjoy poetry with under 7's - to accompany their animated 'A Poem is...' series.



THE CANAL & RIVER TRUST


The Poetry Society commissioned Ian McMillan to write a new poem in celebration of our canals, marking the launch of the Canal & River Trust.



       ENERGY OMBUDSMAN


For Valentine’s day 2012, the energy ombudsman got together with the Poetry Society and poet Matt Harvey to call for more healthy relationships between customers and energy companies. Read and listen to Matt's anti-Valentine poem: a tale of lost love, suffering, heartache and ultimately rejection.
