The Plymouth City Council Waterfront Walkway Public Art Project commissioned poet Kit Wright to work with a local poetry group to write poems which could be carved into public art markers along the coastal walkway of Plymouth.
Kit Wright began writing poetry at the age of six and eventually won a scholarship to Oxford where he became a member of a group of young poets. He published his first collection of poems for adults in 1974 and went on to win many of the major poetry prizes in Britain. In 1978 he published his first book of mainly humorous poems for children Rabbiting On. His other collections for children are Hot Dog; Cat Among the Pigeons; Great Snakes and Funnybunch.
